Tawelfan Reviews

Robert
Stayed in a party of 10 and had a superb stay. This is our 3rd stay. Tawelfan provides a comfortable and welcoming stay and easily copes with such a large group. We love the area, and especially proximity to Cambrian coast railway line for spectacular trips. This time we went up to Criccieth
Fab weekend for my birthday with my best friends and beautiful children. House has everything and slept so well and huge dining table perfect for dinner and breakfast
Sharon
The size of the property and lay out is great, I don't think the property is used that much as although the beds were immaculate there were a lot of cobwebs around the property and the pots and pans all needed a wash before use. my main complaint was the towels were suposed to be provided but there was 1 bath towel per person and no hand towels, there was 1 hand towel in each bathroom which was ok for hand washing after a visit to the loo but most women like a hand towel for hair, there were no tea towels at all and no oven gloves so we had to use 1 of the bathroom hand towels.
A group of 10 of us visited Tawelfan cottage, Llwyngwril. It was our second visit and, on both occasions, we found the property and the facilities to be very comfortable and perfectly adequate for our stay. Tawelfan cottage is the ideal haven from which to explore the many special delights that the North of Wales has to offer Llwyngrwril is a charming village surrounded by beautiful countryside in one direction and the rugged seashore in the other. After an invigorating walk, Hendry Hall is on hand for a cosy, welcoming sit down and the option of enjoying a few snacks, an exciting dining menu and a nice drink or five. The cottage is situated a brief walk away from LLwyngrwril train station from where you can easily make good use of the regular local train service to visit such places as Aberystwyth, Aberdovey, Porthmadoc and so much more. During our last visit we also took a short drive to visit The George III, Penmaenpool pubrestaurant. Set on the banks of the Mawddach estuary the food in the restaurant was a very good standard and reasonably priced and the views over the estuary were spectacular. It is well worth a visit. Based on our very enjoyable two visits to Tawelfan cottage, I would highly recommend Tawelfan as a base for experiencing a relaxing, comfortable stay with all the opportunities of easily exploring more if you so choose.
This was the perfect house for our needs, 10 people, a big communal lounge, huge dining room and lots of bedrooms. The access path to the beach was the kids favourite part, it was wonderful. Equally accessible was the path up through the hills right from the back door. The bathrooms toilets were all modern and fresh, we didn't have one complaint. Would highley recommend.
The listing suggests it is ok for people with mobility issues as there is a ground floor bedroom and bathroom what is not made clear is that there are no facilities such as grab rails in the bathroom, and the bed is astonishingly high in the bedroom. Worse is that there are 5 steep steps up to the lounge which isnt mentioned, and there is no handrail etc, therefore if you have a person with mobility issues they only have a choice of their bedroom or the dining room to sit, and there are no sofascomfy seats etc in the dining room. The house is nice and big, most beds were comfy aside from the twin on the first floor which had beds which did not look stable and squeaked terribly if you turned over. There is no garden to speak of if you are thinking grassed lawn, the location is perfect for the beach. There was a problem with a pipe which was sorted quickly. General maintenance could be better, the dishwasher obviously needs a good clean, the kitchen cupboard doors a good wipe, and the showers some drain cleaner etc.
Beautiful large house set in a beautiful location. Small pretty village & the beach is just over the road There were 10 of us & 2 dogs, I loved that no matter where you were everyone had a space to sit. I didn't need to worry there wouldn't be enough crockery or glasses as there were loads. The owners have catered for everything, including the games room The bedrooms were big enough, sadly most of the doors didn't close fully but this should hopefully be a simple adjustment. Would benefit from having a small bin in each room The bathrooms and toilets had been modernised & looked lovely The gardens are really not secure for medium sized dogs or ones that like to jump, but a simple spike & long lead resolved this. There's also plenty of parking Owners were on hand to answer any questions
Tracey
Great property, the views were lovely but could do with a refresh, however, we all enjoyed our stay. In the room we slept in first floor, front double room the door had no catch and at night continually banged as it was warm and the windows were open had to improvise to wedge the door shut.
Fantastic location, right on the beautiful beach at Llwyngwril with wonderful options for food and drink within walking distance. We especially enjoyed the cosy lounge with the log burner and the comfy bed and hot shower after hiking. Lovely, spacious house with everything we needed and dog friendly too.
Fourteen of us had a lovely weekend in this house. It had everything we needed parking, huge living room, huge dining table, lots of toys and games for the children, easy access to the beach, playground nearby. The bedrooms were comfortable and having so many bathroomstoilets available on every floor was great! It was easy to contact the owners who were quick to respond and helpful.
We had a lovely long weekend stay here, the location was amazing, just a couple of minutes walk from the beach, the cottage has everything that we needed and there was plenty of room to spend time together, but also enough rooms that we could all do different things. We will definitely be looking to stay here again.
Robert
Perfect location, the house had everything we required, a home away from home. This was our second visit, chosen especially to celebrate a 75th birthday with friends, and it did not disappoint. The property is wellequipped, and comfortable. Its thoughtful amenities and cozy ambiance make it ideal for both relaxing and special occasions. We've enjoyed a family gathering, and a birthday celebration. Highly recommend booking and will visit again soon.
Amazing place to stay, nice big cosy property with a beachfront. Lovely scenery. House has everything you need for a holiday home, from a games room to utensils in the kitchen. Would highly recommend
We had a lovely long weekend celebrating a 40th and 18th Birthday. 4 generations together. I can't thank owners enough.
We had great stay, the property is well placed to visit several areas of the coast. The kitchen was well equipped with all we required. Everyone found the bedrooms and beds very comfortable. You might want to checkout the electric Shower, couldnt seem to get any hot water, But other than that, everything else was fine. Handy for the station to visit Barmouth and Aberdovey, both a short train ride. We were lucky that the local pub had reopened the week before. Would definitely return here.
Very spacious place and exciting location. Walking distance to the sea side where both kids and adults can have a nice time. Short drive away is a steam train which the kids really enjoyed. This train takes you to lovely sandy beach. At home loads of activities for both children and adults.
The property fulfilled our needs wonderfully. We weren t sure how it would be when we booked it. Everyone thought it was very good. The beds etc were clean and comfortable. All the equipment we needed. There were a few cosmetic tweaks that could improve it but they didn t make any difference to us. It was very good

A Perfect Family Retreat! We had an amazing stay at this holiday let with our family, spanning three generations! The house had space for everyone. The beds were comfortable and the downstairs bedrooms and shower made it great for our family members that could not go up stairs easily. The communal areas were perfect for spending quality time together, the large living room was perfect and cozy with the log burner. The kitchen was fully equipped, making it easy to prepare family meals, and the large dining table meant we could all sit together, which was a real highlight. Everything was very clean. The location was ideal. Being right opposite the beach, cafbar and childrens play ground was a big bonus. The views are stunning, such a beautiful area to explore. It is close to activities for the younger ones, but also peaceful enough for us to unwind. We visited Barmouth and walked along the pedestrian bridge and took a train ride to PorthMadog that was free for our Welsh relatives with their bus pass! We also visited Aberdovey and the Talyllyn Railway in Tywyn which were great trips. Communication with the hosts was excellent. They provided clear instructions for checkin, and were quick to respond to any questions we had. We really appreciated the local recommendations and thoughtful touches, like amenities in the kitchen and bathrooms, they went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. We cant wait to return for our next family holiday!
We really enjoyed our stay at this property. The property is wellkept and clean, very spacious, has all the amenities we could think of. The facility is located very close to the beach, which is an additional advantage for families with children. Definitely worth recommending.
Caroline
There were lots of positives about Tawelfan. The location was great, lovely village even though the pub has sadly closed down. Great to have a station which gives access up and down the coast. The house was clean, lovely dining room with a table to fit us all round comfortably and a really good big living room. Beds were comfortable and bedrooms generally good although the ground floor twin room was a bit cramped. Good selection of childrens toys and the table football was a big hit! However, there were some negatives. Firstly no instructionsarrival pack for how anything worked, no information about the village, buses, trains, amenities etc. This is REALLY important. We had no information about rubbish collection, recycling no spare bin bags or recycling bags were provided how the heating, wifi or TV etc. worked. An OS map of the area would be really useful. Secondly the washing machine was broken which was a BIG negative, especially as we had a baby and three young children with us and only two tea towels and one hand towel in each bathroom were provided for a whole week! This needs to be fixed urgently. Similarly there should have been soaphandwash in each bathroom. A catchchain to hold the drive gate open is a must as it just swings shut meaning anyone on their own could not drive out. The hot water in the bedroom on the first floor didn't work. Hooks are needed in the downstairs toilet for those of us who were sleeping on the ground floor to hang up towels. Having to put them on the floor was not great! A mirror above the sink in there would be useful too. The hot water was ferociously hot which was dangerous with small children. Mixer taps would make it safer. The top bathroom needs a blind, and seems to have a family of woodlice living in it! The kitchen is cramped for a house sleeping up to 16 people. Plenty of crockery and cutlery but a better pan selection would have been useful. Maybe some better use could be made of the dead space between the kitchen and the living room? Some helpful suggestions Kitchen A larder freezer would be much better than the chest freezer. The fridge was inadequate for the number of people and seems very wet. Anything with a cardboard wrapper got sodden. No pans for the induction hob so it was not usable. The LED panel on the microwave doesn't work and no instructions so no idea how to make it do anything. No dishbrushes, cleaning cloths etc. Door handles on the doors would be useful! Finally, the fire alarm went off at about 7.40am on the last morning! Is this a scheduled weekly test or a wake up call to get us all out?? Or just a fault? Whichever, information about it is needed. Overall we enjoyed our stay and it has the potential to be a great house with a little more attention to detail.
Sandra
Very well located and huge. .. ideal for large family group as we were. Adequate in all ways but more of a hostel feeling than comfy home. Would have appreciated more 'niceties' ..eg. we had to go and buy washing up liquid, dish washer tabs, hand soap and toilet paper. Unusual in our experience for this size and price point property
It was such a shame because its a lovely house in a lovely village but there was a serious plumbing issue which included a leaking ceiling, through an electrical fitting, no hot water for the entire stay, and two faulty showers. Between seven adults and our infants, we were a seriously lacking the facilities we required with only one working shower and no hot water and b scared about the water getting in the electrics, which turned out to be a fair concern when the electrics blew. Despite previous knowledge about the issue, and a maintenance person who we had seen but had failed to fix the problem, the property owner tried to blame us and refused to refund us, instead offering a cynical 70 discount on our next stay. Very disappointing, particularly given we had several babies under six months old with us and had been in full cooperation with the maintenance person. Youll have a lovely stay, if nothing goes wrong.
Samantha
This place is very spacious and well equipped. Owner on hand with a phone call to.
