Bryn Melyn Artist's Cottage Reviews

Not much to say other than I had a wonderful time at Bryn Melyn Artist's Cottage. Hosts, Louise and Rob, were really nice people, and kindly left a starting pack for when I arrived. It is a delightful cottage between Dolgellau and Barmouth on the A493. The cottage has all one would need for an extended stay I stayed there for 2 weeks. It is a 2minute walk to the road that leads to Penmaenpool bridge, and the bus stops for Barmouth or Dolgellau. A great holiday for me is when I do not have to use the car, and I only used it once in 14 days. I took the bus to Barmouth and then onto Harlech and Porthmadog. In the opposite direction I took the bus to Dolgellau, and then onto Bala and beyond. Bus fares cost no more than 4 for the longer journeys and there are plenty of buses to get around the locality. Crossing the bridge at Penmaenpool 30p for pedestrians there is the great walk along the Mawddach Estuary about 2 miles to Dolgellau and about 7 miles to Barmouth. At Barmouth one can take the panoramic walk across the estuary towards Fairbourne and its miniature railway. Also, the rail station at Barmouth has trains that can take you to most places locally and beyond. I would certainly recommend the George III pub at Penmaenpool. The food and drink were excellent, and good value for money. The staff at the pub were very friendly and accommodating. I would also same the same for The Royal in Barmouth.
The cottage was pretty good. Clean and everything worked. It's a handy spot for touring the region and we loved the Fairbourne Railway. Parking is tricky. It's a busy road and there is not a huge amount of room.
Nice cottage. In a good position for everything. Been before. Owners very friendly.

Weather absolutely atrocious. But this lovely cottage more than made up for it.our second visit now and looking forward to our next trip.location central for all towns barmouth dolgellaua harlechportmeirionporthmadog and so on.the road can be a little busy on times, but not a problem.and the hosts rob and louise ,well what can one say.1010 they were excellent,2 lovely hosts,we can not thank them enough for what they done for us. xxx roblouise thank you both xxx
Lovely cosy cottage. Beautifully presented. It contains everything you need for a comfortable holiday. The hosts, Rob and Louise are lovely, if you need them, but not obtrusive. The welcome pack was the best I've ever had. Thank you so much.

The cottage wasnt really suitable for our needs being an older couple with mobility issues having the bathroom down stairs and having to get up in the night a problem shower had a high step into with no hand rail so we couldnt use it and the small bathroom needed a thorough clean. However the owners were lovely and left us some goodies.ideal for a couple with everything for a pleasant stay.

Very nice cottage in a great position. Welcome pack was indeed, welcome.
A very nice property in a beautiful part of Wales. Owners are next door and on hand should you need them.
Very well kept property . Nice touches such as welcoming card and Welch cakes and jam.Had problem with car so while waiting fo AA lady offered to do us some food shopping how lovely of her only down side was the proximity of a very busy road . Weather not to good but but the accommodation was very good
Dominic
A comfortable place to stay when hiking up the local Hills and Mountains. The road outside does get busy, but this didn't bother me as I was out most of the day anyway.
The only problem with the property is the traffic outside. Being a fairly busy road and the cottage being very close to the road you get a high level of noise
Would recomend this cottage to anybody. Its in a good location and its got all you need for a good holiday
Super cottage perfect for two. We know the area and it was situated with easy access to so many of our bestloved locations. Clean, wellequipped, comfortable and excellent views. Pleasant & helpful hosts and thoroughly recommended!
The only minor issues were poor broadband and the bathroom needed a lick of paint. Really good place already booked it again for next year
Very friendly, generous hosts. A lovely, clean cottage in a good location with nice views.and good hikes around.
Fabulous stay yet again. Lou and Rob are very welcoming and the cottage is always beautiful. Hope to be back in the future! Always somewhere to go, walks, waterfalls and more.
Lovely little cottage in breathtaking area. Fully furnished, all the home comforts and a super substantial welcome pack for thd weary traveller! Very comfortable bed with large screen TVs downstairs and also DVD and large selection upstairs. Spotlessly clean and warm n cosy.
Fantastic experience would definitely recommend.
A lovely week, cosy and welcoming cottage, everything you need including a welcome note and Welsh cakes, beautiful views especially from upstairs lovely walks close at hand and The George just over the bridge. Loved our stay and we'll be back again next year for our fourth visit. Thank you.
George
The cottage was comfortable and well placed to tour Snowdonia. However, it's position on a main road was not so good as both speed and noise of traffic was rather disturbing. We both enjoyed revisiting places last seen some 30 years ago. We would also particularly mention a visit to the Centre of Advanced Technology, well worth the time.
Andrew
Louise and Rob were very welcoming, the cottage was exactly has described in the booking we would definitely go again.
WiFi and a small coffee table in the lounge would be useful. Great location, fabulous views from upstairs and lots of great loca walks. Rob and Louise very friendly and helpful, provided a lovely welcome pack.
Great cottage but is on a main road to Barmouth. Therefore can be noisey, no a problem if you are aware. We hope to return. The cottage is in a great area
Our second visit to this cottage, a beautiful location and a lovely cosy cottage overlooking the estuary. Can't fault it in any way and we'll be back again soon.
Anthony
Very clean, well presented, with good facilities. Peaceful location, good for accessing Snowdonia area.
Read some negative reviews on this property so was a little unsure whether to book but the property is just lovely and just right for two people. Spotlessly clean and designed well making good use of the space. View from the cottage is lovely. Yes it is on a main road but there is off road parking with plenty of room for our estate car. We had a welcome pack provided. We enjoyed our short stay and would like to stay again.
Holiday was great weather good able to do lots of walking in the local area, cottage was a delight, clean tidy had everything we needed.
Cottage fine. However I wouldn't have booked it if I knew the road was so busy. It didn't spoil our holiday as such because we simply used it as a base. We would have spent more time at the cottage were it not for the road. The noise and pollution was unacceptable. The small patio area was unusable because of this. It was also overgrown with weeds which suggests other guests hadn't used it either. The pub advertised as just down the road is shut. Despite these difficulties we still enjoyed our holiday.
This lovely cottage is tiny. It is not suitable for large people or those with any sort of mobility issues. It is situated on the main road between Barmouth and Dolgellu and the traffic is fast and frequent. Parking is a shallow bay that has spaces for the cottage and the adjacent cottage. The key safe is all the way to the right of the cottage currently under a bush so a torch or phone light needs to be used to see the numbers. There is a step up into the accommodation, coat hooks to the left but no where to put wellies or muddy boots so bring something to put down. The windows are double glazed so that noise is at a minimum. There is a low sofa, a small tv with sky box which as has been mentioned in previous reviews is fairly useless because of it's positioning. The small kitchen is basically but adequately equipped. There is a small table and two chairs and a welsh dresser which houses the plates and cooking casserole dishes. The bathroom has a heated towel rail, a fan heater and a small wash basin. There is an 8 inch step up into the shower. The shower is electric and we found it difficult to regulate. The water drains slowly and fills the shower tray quickly so long hot showers are not advised. The toilet is a saniflo system which is noisy and makes the cottage lights flicker. The stairs to the upper floor are steep. The upstairs room is spacious and delightful. The tv is small and has freeview. There are two chairs and a coffee table at the window with room around them that doesn't obstruct the very comfortable double bed. Towels, four pillows and a duvet are provided but there are additional textiles in the blanketbox. A small waist high hanging rail has 7 hangers, and there is a chest of drawers for storage as well. Velux windows for ventilation and a fire escape door. Outside the terrace is very nice but reached by steep stairs which have no hand rail. It is warm, dry and clean and we enjoyed our stay despite the inclement weather.
Lovely cottage for two. Everywhere within easy reach. Cottage would benefit from much larger tv in bedroom as it is tiny. If skybox is provided would be good to have channels. Not too sure why skybox downstairs and freesat upstairs? Also wifi would be very beneficial. Out of 4 windowns upstairs only 2 had curtains, would be great for blinds to be put on other two.
Fantastic break, lovely weather not that Sykes can claim credit for that! . The cottage was lovely, with breathtaking views out across the valley. Thoroughly enjoyed every day of it and having a warm place to relax in the evening after a day's walking was wonderful. We'll be back.
Fairly comfortable, tv too small, non slip mat needed in shower, patio area needs needs to be smartend up although busy road made it impossible to sit for a quiet moment. But lovely area and we were out every day.

This was our return visit and as enjoyable as the first, lovely cottage with great views, things to see and a nice walk up to the RSPB Forrest, a 15 minute drive to the beach which we went to every day as the weather was great,a reliable company to use with emails being sent to us as comfermation of booking and payment.
Malcolm
We had a wonderful week, based from this small but more than adequate property. Generally very comfortable, well appointed and attractively furnished throughout. The provision of a welcome pack, including milk, tea and coffee plus Welsh Cakes was a lovely touch. The scenery adjacent to the property is stunning and a wonderful view from the bedroom window when you wake in the morning. A word of caution however is for the busy A Road that runs close to the house with no pavement on either side and would be a big worry if you had a dog or small child. The property has great access to Snowdonia and we would be very happy to return to it one day and recommend it to others.
A small, sturdy coffee table in the lounge would be useful. The TV in the lounge is too high on the wall for comfortable viewing we had to use one upstairs.

Robert
The cottage was perfect it had everything we could wish for ,clean, cosy, comfortable, adequate facilities. Perfectly located for us to go travelling to see the sites
A lovely cottage in a great setting. When we arrived there was a Christmas tree, mince pies and a Yule Log waiting for us. Thank you! This a lovely base for walking, biking or just touring, if you're an active couple, or just relaxing and enjoying the views. Thoroughly recommended.
