Abermaw Views Reviews

This is a good functional and unpretentious property in an excellent location. We found it to be particularly good value early season in May and we also managed to grab one of the free parking spaces on the road outside the property all week and would stay again. For some useful feedback for the owners we found the WiFi to be unreliable and relied more on our mobile data so this would be worth looking at. As other reviews mention this is a top floor apartment accessed by stairs only.
The photos and description were quite accurate, however the stairwell leading up to the apartment is quite dingy with a broken light at the very top and cluttered on each landing which made us feel a little uneasy on our first night as it looked a little like homeless people may be living there. The interior is OK but there are a couple of areas that need maintenance and care such as plaster coming off the wall in the kitchen and a broken tile in the bathroom. The wardrobes are OK but tired and needing painting as the colour of the doors has rubbed off in places. All of the windows were pretty dirty on the outside but I understand this is a high apartment and may not be easy to clean. After our first couple of days we were more settled in and had a comfortable nights sleep. We also noted that it was very clean and that is important to us. 5 nights was enough for me and I would not want to stay any longer and we were glad that we came in the low season as we would not have wanted to pay any more as it was not worth it. This was a last minute booking and it was all about the location for us as we like to go walking and exploring so this was perfect for a base and the area is beautiful and we really love Wales. The views from the front are lovely as you can see the beach and the mountains on one side. We had a problem with the shower nearly overflowing when used but contacted the lady who looks after this and she sent someone round to have a look but it did not really sort the very slow draining issue. She explained that it was probably the old pipework that caused this. Overall it was OK but I would not want to go back to this place.
The accommodation is in a great location in Barmouth, making it very easy to get around, whether this is by car, train or bus. The amenities around you are great, lots of eating and drinking options. Great walking routes too. The view of the beach from the lounge window and one bedroom is wonderful, very calming with a cuppa in the morning, or a glass of wine in the evening. The accommodation has all that you need for a stay, regardless of the duration of your break. It is comfortable and clean. The apartment is at the very top of the property, so a fair few stairs to climb. It was ok for us, but might not be for others, so needs to be considered when booking. We met Cara, who looks after the property and she is approachable and friendly. Overall, a great find, we had a lovely week.
Lovely cosy little flat amazing views clean tidy comfortable we had such a relaxing time
Annette
We found the communal entrance to the building and stairs to be a little 'tired' looking. The front garden and steps to the main building could do with a general tidy up to look more appealing. The apartment was spotlessly clean, and Tara, the owner's sister, was very helpful when we had a problem with the Internet. Some of the furniture could do with updating, however, the bed in the main bedroom was very comfortable, and the views to the sea were wonderful. The shower doors were a little unstable at times, and the table lamps were not working, but there were standard lamps to compensate for this. You need to be quite fit to climb all of the stairs. A very good location for all of the amenities. Nice to have a simple cooker to use. We have often had difficulties in other places we have stayed where the kitchen appliances have been too modern and complicated to use. Tara lives just a couple of doors down and was always available by phone if there were any issues.
Absolutely disgusting, the smell coming from the fridge smelt as if something had died in there and left, there was food under the sofa in the living room and the table looked as if it had been melted on the top. The service we received from a member of staff was with our a doubt the worst customer service we have ever experienced, trying to make out that we were lying I mean why would we travel 2 and half hours to lie. This is by far the worst place I have even been in my life and would definitely not recommend it to anyone. Also I would not recommend Sykes cottage we lost all our money because they did nothing to investigate and believed the owner. Why would I leave at risk of loosing everything for no reason also I have followed up with emails just to be ignored. Save your money and buy a tent and sleep on the beach. Avoid at all cost.
Michael
Dark messy hallways to apartment. Very dirty inside with rubbish left on the side. Hoover was left in the middle of the room. Notes complaining about leaking freezer compartment on kitchen side. Very disappointed and left. Complained to Skye cottages and were told previous customers also complained. Also recent reviews very bad and one said they cleaned the place on arrival as it was very dirty. We were then told by someone else that as we didn't take any photos were weren't getting a refund and they couldn't take our word. We won't be using Skye cottages again
We loved the apartment which was light, airy and comfortable, kitchen was well equipped. Commanded lovely views of the beach and estuary. Counted 52 steps up to the top floor, so not for those who can't do stairs! However, it could do with a thorough deep clean, had there been cleaning supplies, I would have done it myself as it bugged me the whole week. Windows especially were filthy inside and out, shame as this spoilt the view! Bathroom, shower full of black mould, nothing an old toothbrush, bleach and elbow grease wouldn't fix. Behind door full of dust, tiled shelf ditto. Skirting boards, ditto, especially below heater in front bedroom, visible from dining area. Fridge on its last legs, icebox so iced up, impossible to get anything in and dripping water all over food in fridge health hazard. No black bags for rubbish provided, ditto washing up liquid, antibax Flash? etc. Vacuuming lax as bits and dust everywhere, seems new carpet has been laid but not cleaned up very well. We would return as we liked the apartment but please, give it the clean it deserves.
Stephanie
We did enjoy our stay but by that I mean when we was out. The beds were comfy... That's the only good thing I can say. we also left early due to the amount of dust everywhere. Fruit flies around living room and kitchen. We normally stay here every year but won't be coming back next year. Thick dust on stairs an boards. Hair an dust behind doors. Stains on floor where it hasn't been mopped. Orange grime on shower. Fridge stinks an freezer was full of ice but at same time defrosting over our actual food in fridge. I did send pictures in a separate email.
Robert
Lovely apartment in fantastic location, difficult to criticise in any way, but little things like a tray and tea towel in the kitchen would have been appreciated, had a wonderful holiday despite the awful weather. Would recommend this to anyone
Rachel
The kettle broke. It was dangerous. We sent a message to the company. Noone responded. Very poor.
Amanda
A lovely Victorian building on the promenade overlooking a golden sandy beach, the sea and the estuary. What more could you want? The apartment was split level which we love with the spacious rooms from that era.It was a mix of furnishings, pictures etc but it worked and was charming. We had everything we needed and were able to park outside with no problem. Not a negative for us as we dont have mobility issues but for those that do the stairs may be a problem as the apartment is on the top floor. We just loved everything about our holiday.Thankyou
We stayed at the property for a seaside break, with our two children 11 and 13. The property is central and a few min walk from the train station, supermarket and less then a min walk from the beach. A car is useful to visit surrounding Wales but is no way needed to get to the property or get the most out of Barmouth itself. On arrival everything was clean and as described in the advertisement and was matching the photos provided. The rooms were if anything more spacious than we had imagined. I personally enjoyed the amount of art in every room. There is some steep steps inside the building to get to the apartment, as mentioned. But it really is worth the effort for the view of Barmouth beach. Our stay was quiet and relaxing. We used the cooking facilities and everything you could think of was provided. It's really difficult to think of any constructive criticism to provide, perhaps the vacuum could do with a replacement as the nozzle easily comes loose. We had a fantastic time and hope to come back again. We would happily recommend this property to our friends and family. Thank you for providing the base for our lovely holiday .
Nice views beds could be better all in all not a bad stay at this property
We had aLovely comfortable and wellequipped apartment
What a wonderful apartment. Clean, tidy and very welcoming. Amazing views. Would definitely return for another holiday.
A pleasant location overlooking a beautiful view of the beach and sea. Premises were very well kept and very clean. We enjoyed greatly. Please be aware if you are elderly or infirm there are several flights of stairs.
Christine
We arrived with some frozen food but the freezer was all frozen up and we couldn't use it so you might want to defrost it for the next customer . Other wise we enjoyed our stay and really liked the decor
Very poor and run down comunal areas. Stairs were difficult if you have any mobility issues. Needs new carpets and redecorating.Appartment was clean and tidy but wall paper needs replacing woodchip wall paper not good very old fashioned. All in all the views were amazing and we had a very comfortable stay. I do believe as you walk through the main door into the building is dirty and unwelcoming. ?
Michelle
We loved this apartment. It had an amazing location in the centre of town. The view from the window was wonderful. The apartment was well presented and spacious.
Alison
A great property, a convenient location for both the beach and the town. A clean, well presented apartment with everything you need in the kitchen. It had a very welcome feel when you arrive.
