2 Borthwen Cottages Reviews

Second time we've stayed here. Lovely little cottage with everything we needed. Secure enclosed garden for our two dogs. Great location for you exploring the area. Easy walk to the beach, about 30 minutes. Local shops a few minutes walk away. Would stay again.
We had a lovely stay at Borthwen plenty of room for our dog to run round. Nice easy walks on doorstep and only 5 mins to local shops
This is a gem and ticks all the boxes. Our two dogs love the enclosed garden and the short trek to the woodlands and beach. Any tiny imperfections are easily overlooked because the cottage provides a fabulous holiday and marvellous value for money. Local shops are good and nearby Barmouth has something for everyone. Two visits so far and would come again gladly.
Musty smelling towels. Light in kitchen not working Heating difficult to manage and no instructions Lots of dead spiders in corner by table Top shelf in kitchen cupboard too high if under 5ft 6 tall. Otherwise good value for money and the holiday was most enjoyable.
We loved our stay here and have booked again. Been staying in Sykes cottages for 10 years now and no place is perfect but has character and charm of its own. Totally recommend this cottage.
We have stayed here 3 times, 2019 & prior to that. The cottage is nice, surprised nothing has changed!! Needs a bit of updating bathroom wise, frying pans were not cleaned. No books or games. Didnt like seeing COVID19 signs everywhere, need to move on
Borthwen cottage is a lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings. Really quiet area. Easy access to shops, train & bus. The cottage garden is secure ideal for our two pups.the kitchen is a.nice size as is the rest of the cottage ideal for a family of 4

Spotlessly clean, pleasant safe garden well situated. 5 min drive to Llanbedr where there are reasonably priced inns with tasty home made food. Bottle of wine and delicious Welsh cakes much appreciated. Surprised there wasn't visitors book to complete.
Loved our stay. Ideal for dogs with an enclosed garden. Cottage had everything we needed. Ideal location with great walks down to the beach through woodland and up into the hills. Couple of local shops within walking distance. Would recommend and hopefully will stay again.
Claire
I had a lovely stay, I was very lucky to have beautiful weather all week. The cottage is in a great location for walking to the beach there are a number of ways to walk there. The garden is enclosed for dogs which is great. The cottage was clean and had everything needed. Outside garden furniture needed some TLC for example there is a broken bench. A nice welcome pack was appreciated.

Beautiful cottage in a beautiful quiet place. Has everything you need. Perfect for a relaxing break.Lovely comfortable beds with lovely linen so had a great sleep. I have no complaints atall. The lamp on windowsill by tv doesn't work but managed without so no big deal. We walked to the beach in 1520 mins by turning left out of the cottage and crossed the field with our dogs. The cows were in the right side field. We came back the same way but there was a young bull in the field we had to cross so we felt it too unsafe so walked round and found our way back...just something to note as the Farmer has not put signs up. There is another route to the beach though. We had a lovely relaxing break. The cottage has a beautiful garden that gets the sun all day. We would definitely return. We even got a takeaway Sunday lunch ftom The Victoria Inn which is in the next town as obviously we are not allowed to leave the dogs alone in the property per the rules .
Audrey
The property was beautiful, I loved the use of wood it made it feel really warm. It had everything needed for a self catering holiday. The owners also left a small gift basket with Welsh cakes and Wine which was a lovely touch. The cottage was comfortable, as was the bed. The woodburner was easy to use, and although the wood isn't provided it is available at the local Spar and petrol station which are a couple of minutes walk. It is in the perfect area, close to the beach and Snowdonia National Parks. It was the perfect property for the dogs as the outside area was a good size with a garden but also a patio area. As the back was gated it was safe to leave the door open for the dogs to go in and out as they pleased.
I will certainly be back to this lovely cottage, everything you needed was there, highly recommend it.
Nicola
Excellent location property is Beautiful well maintained and tasteful had everything we needed. Ideal for the Dog good spacious garden and secure.
Lovely cottage in beautiful Snowdonia with everything we needed for a perfect stay. Our dogs really enjoyed the garden an the beach, which is just a 10 minutes walk away.
A beautiful cottage in a beautiful location. The property has everything one would need in a holiday home. It's a clean property, spacious downstairs and sufficient space upstairs. A wet day was made easier with large TV and WiFi, and there was plenty of space outside for the car and a garden to enjoy too. The property makes for a short trip to both Harlech and Barmouth as well as being a short walk from an excellent butchers and a cafe. Owners provided a nice care package of Welsh goods and there were staples in the property so we could function on arrival. Key instructions were nice and simple too. We wouldn't hesitate to book again. We had a fantastic week.

Had a lovely stay very good base to go explore on foot or by train or car lovely and quiet only sounds are the birds and farm animals close to the butchers which is a little pricey but quality stuff and spa. The cottage offers everything you need for a comfortable home from home stay and when the sun is shining lovely to sit out and watch the sun go down already booked for next year would definitely recommend.
We had a great week at 2 Borthwen cottage it was a good size for 2 adults & 2 children 2 pups who loved to explore the secure garden,it was nice to have off road parking and space for a trailer, everything was nicely set out and in a good location for food, shop, train station and pubs there is lots of lovely walks aroundshort or longand 20min walk to beach.
Lovely place so quiet
We have stayed at Borthwen several times. The cottage was clean and with a good secure garden for dogs. Pleased to see a small freezer added plus carpet runner on stairs which are steep which needs to be noted for people with any form of mobility problems plus bathroom and bedroom a bit of a squeeze, this is a quaint old Welsh cottage so which is to be expected. There was a lovely welcome basket on a arrival. A spa shop and butchers within a five minute walk . Would recommend.
Found the cottage clean and tidy but very cold did try and have the heating at a eco setting but couldn't because it was so cold . In the summer it would be nice and possible to do . We had a lovely walk to the beach through the woods bit muddy but nice think it could do with something to dry a little bit of washing either a line or a free standing frame .we had to leave early due to family problems but it was nice what time we did spend there would probably stay again when the weather was warmer
Had an excellent stay very good location
Our second stay at 2 Borthwen. We absolutely love the cottage and so do our dogs, it's great value, practical, cosy and homely. For us It's in the perfect spot, with woods and fields almost straight out of the door and beaches within easy walking distance, also shops and the garage about 100yards up the road. If you don't drive the cottage is easy to reach from the train station. There are plenty of nice pubs a short distance away, we had a very good Sunday lunch at The Victoria Hotel Llanbedr, which allows dogs inside. Barmouth and Harlech. are lovely towns to visit. The cottage has everything you need, the beds are comfy, the shower works well. The heating is fine, just check the dial behind the door in the front room and turn up if it's cold. The cottage has a large parking area and a nice garden. We were delighted with the welcome pack, which included the best bottle of wine either of us has ever tasted. We returned home relaxed and restored.

The stairs were very steep and the metal handrail was slippery to the touch, in fact I ended up at Bangor Hospital regarding this as I slipped and fell down 6 treads, the toilet brush was filthy and badly stained, requires replacement, bathroom door sticks, main floor downstairs could do with a sand and reseal, even though the cottage was quirky the pictures did not represent the true outlook, as it was quite cold the open fire was used and proved to be costly, 63 in logsfirewood, and 90 taxi fare from Bangor Hospital, I'm afraid it is somewhere I would not recommend especially for 4 adults as it was quite cramped even for a cottage.
Really loved the cottage. There was nothing that we could fault with it.Very comfortable and cosy. It was situated in a good area with walks to the sea from the cottage. Should love to come again in 2024 Many thanks. John and Diane Harris
Had a lovely time at 2 borthwen cottage well equipped and in a great location ... Had a lovely time at 2 borthwen cottage well equipped and in a great location it was clean and tidy and so quiet just the place to relax if you want to leave the car and walk all week it the place to go
Lovely relaxing stay. Cottage well equipped. Welcome basket was a nice touch. Bed was comfortable, slept very well. Will be returning, hopefully there won't be a storm raging outside the next time. Very dog friendly area loads of cafes in Barmouth accept dogs.
Dennis
Lovely old cottage very clean everything you need in the cottage owner spot on easy to deal with

2 Borthwen is an attractive property in a good location just off the main street. Arriving on a busy weekend access off the High Street by the butchers is tricky. The first property on the left park 3 cars there leaving a very narrow space to enter. Anything other than a medium sized car would struggle at such times. There was parking either side of the junction as well at different times making visibility poor to pull out onto the main street at busy times The property is semi detached & parking for both is at the frontage of 2 Borthwen so this affects privacy & security for dogs if, as is permitted, the adjoining property had up to 3 cars. Any cars from the adjoining property need to open the gates to use the parking area anyway. The gates can be left open but only if dogs, young children won't be using the outside space. The small garden needs a lot of attention & looks nothing like the photograph. Internally, the external door to the main room can't be opened fully, nor can the one to the bathroom which was very frustrating. The main room is set out in a basic way with almost no decorative touches. Lamps other than the harsh lighting of the industrial standard lamp would add ambience. The floor, whilst safe underfoot, looks shabby & needs refurbishment. The garden equipment stored in the open under stairs space adds nothing to the feel of the space. The stairs are steep, slightly uneven & the handrail is inadequate. This should be mentioned in the description. Upstairs is cramped but to be expected due to the age of the property. The kitchen has the basics. Standard of cleaning seemed adequate although the internal section of the external door frames visible when the doors are open was very dirty.
Lovely location with attractive garden and lots of parking space. Comfortable beds. Spacious lounge. Kitchen well equipt . The make shift work surfaces abit wobbly Excellent shower seeing as the bathroom tiny...shaving a little off the door then it open further making more space. 1 bath 1 hand towel is not really sufficient seeing as there's no washing machine and not even a washing line
It has not changed from the last time we stayed there apart from the worktop freezer being provided, work tops old scaffold planks could do with renewing, garden needs TLC, otherwise in an ideal position.
Brilliant and beautiful cottage very peaceful
Christine
Lovely Cottage with a tranquil garden. Good walks and beach close by.
Robert
Very cosy cottage in lovely location, the gates meant we could let the dogs run in the garden.
Beautiful property which was very clean when we arrived and equipped with everything you need. Despite being February we managed to sit out in the lovely garden and listen to the birds and the sea in the background. Well located away from the busy areas but easily accissible to shops and the beaches.
Steven
Absolutely beautiful clean, cosy cottage in an amazing location, beach one side mountains the other. An altogether wonderful outstanding place. Much appreciation to the owners for sharing their beautiful cottage. Steve, Kristy & Ebony the dog x
Great cottage in a terrific location
We had a lovely time at Borthwen Cottage. It's in an area we know well and with our dogs we had some lovely walks to the beach about a mile away. The cottage met all our requirements and was cosy and comfortable we brought our own logs as they're not provided. It was clean and had everything we needed. The instructions for the cooker were useful as we normally cook with gas. The central heating was easy to use, it's set on eco so tends to revert back to that after a shortish while, so if still cold just check it and turn up again if needed. We had surprisingly good weather and were even able to sit in the lovely garden without being rained on. The cottage is very private with good parking space, plenty of room for the camper van we travelled in. We will definitely be coming back.
